"Monster man was the first non-union video shoot that I have done and will probably be the last. Not because I didn't love working on
it but because I don't want to lose my SAG health insurance!! From day one I experienced the full low-budget treatment. I was picked up at the airport in Jose's groovy Land Rover and thought "Things are lookin up". He then drove me to the scariest motel of my life. I thought it was character study for my part. I knew any second the real Monster Man would come into my room of blue painted walls, cement floors, a moldy bathroom with all the fixtures (shower and sink included) pulling away from the walls. I won't even describe the bed linens and what was stained on them. As night rolled around I could not sleep as I looked up at the TV which was bolted to the ceiling and wall. I
left the room and walked along the parking lot and as I accidentally peeked in a window , there was my mature co-star (not Jose) watching some sort of soft porn and I thought to myself "That's it! I'm outta here! Even Charles Band and a third world country like Romania had more livable accommodations!" Well, Jose is a good man albeit a Monster Man, and that morning he checked me into a very comfy 3 digit priced hotel. I'll never forget going into Jose 's bedroom which was full of horror movie posters and trivia and seeing my "Subspecies" poster there. One time we were doing a scene together and he stopped
and said, "wow, I 'm really acting with Denice Duff" It was very charming. His playful spirit is delightful. He revels in the non-sequitar and I'm a big fan of that....lucky for him (i.e.
the discussion scene where the hats and action figures appear!!?!!) He is an impressive martial artist too! And one day I had a torture scene to do and a few seconds into the scene he cut because he thought I was hurt. I said "No, Jose, I was acting"! I did my own hair, make-up, wardrobe, props and even camera work at times along with Jose. It was a good pre-curser to my directorial debut "VAMPIRE RESURRECTION" which happened soon after I wrapped MM. In fact Jose became co-writer on my and even has a cameo in it as "The Shit Guy". Though probably was favorite part was meeting and dining with his family. They were so supportive. Jose just took over the
house from killing zombies on his front lawn, to putting the camera in the fridge (one of my favorite scenes), to rearranging furniture so that it could be tripped over for the perfectly stupid stunt gag. He has a "tongue and cheek" view of the world and doesn't fall back on the traditionally boring shock value scenes of sex and extreme violence. He delivers sheer entertainment of a higher harmonic and I would gladly work with Jose again. Jose, did you say "The Four Seasons?!!" :)
